JSTOR grants access to over 12 million scholarly articles, books, images, and primary sources across 75 disciplines. As a not-for-profit organization, it has a dual mission: to establish and maintain an extensive archive of significant scholarly journals and to ensure that access to these journals is as broad as possible. Researchers can obtain high-resolution, scanned images of journal issues and pages, reflecting their original design, print quality, and illustrations. JSTOR encompasses a wide range of disciplines. Initiated as a project by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, JSTOR emerged to address the growing challenges libraries face in managing shelf space for extensive collections of scholarly journal backfiles. Importantly, JSTOR does not provide access to current issues of journals; instead, its archival focus results in a typical delay of 1 to 5 years before the latest published content becomes available. The subjects covered include the Arts and Sciences, Biological Sciences, Business, Ecology and Botany, Health and General Sciences, Language and Literature, Mathematics and Statistics, among others. Through this initiative, JSTOR aims to preserve and disseminate knowledge while supporting the academic community's diverse research needs.
