The Online Access to Research in the Environment (OARE) initiative, spearheaded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in collaboration with prominent publishers, aims to provide developing countries with access to one of the world's most extensive collections of environmental science research.

OARE encompasses a wide array of research disciplines, including Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics and Genetically Modified Organisms, Botany and Plant Biodiversity, Climatology, Climate Change and Meteorology, Ecology and Wildlife Conservation, and many others. It also addresses Energy Conservation, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Economics, Engineering, Law, Policy, and Planning. The collection covers additional fields like Fish and Fisheries, Forests and Forestry, Geography, Population Studies, Migration, Geology, Earth Sciences, Natural Environmental Disasters, Oceanography, Marine Biology, Pollution, Environmental Toxicology, Satellite and Remote Sensing Technologies, Soil Sciences, Desertification, Waste Management, and Water, Hydrology and Wetlands, as well as Zoology and Animal Biodiversity. Furthermore, OARE offers access to crucial Abstract and Index Research Databases (A&I Databases) and advanced search tools utilized by the global scientific community to locate articles on specific topics across thousands of scientific publications. This initiative significantly enhances research accessibility and knowledge sharing among researchers in developing regions.
